Local FFA Speaking Students Qualify for State Championship
Three local agriculture students from Atwater High School qualified for the 2015 California State FFA Public Speaking Finals during the FFA Central Region Speaking Finals held at Cosumnes River College on February 28th. Atwater High School junior Andrew Skidmore placed 1st overall in the in Extemporaneous Speaking contest. Atwater High School sophomore Jasmine Flores placed 1st overall in the in Impromptu Speaking contest. Atwater High School senior Makala Navarro placed 2nd overall in the in regional final Prepared Speaking contest. All three students will compete at the California FFA Finals at Fresno State University in April with the opportunity to represent California at the National FFA Finals this October in Louisville, Kentucky.
In addition to the regional speaking finals, the Central Region FFA held their regional officer elections. Atwater FFA’s Amanda Skidmore was elected as regional Vice President and Andrew Skidmore was elected regional Treasurer. Over 20,000 agriculture students represent the FFA’s Central Region in California. “Some of the best high school speakers come from the central valley of California,” said FFA advisor Natalie Borba. “It’s one of the most competitive regions in the state and our community should take pride in the efforts of our students.”
