Atwater FFA Chapter Officers Attend
Local Leadership Conference
The
2009-2010 Atwater FFA chapter officer team joined
ten other FFA chapters from the Merced-Mariposa
section at the FFA Sectional Officer Leadership
Conference (SOLC) held at Merced College on Tuesday,
September 15th.
The
annual Sectional Officer Leadership Conference is
held each year to help students develop and
strengthen leadership skills and the
responsibilities within their offices. The
2009-2010 Atwater FFA officer team is composed of JD
Brownwood, President; Lilly Reyes, Vice President;
Laura Gonzalez, Secretary; Collette Wilcox,
Treasurer; Mekayla Coughran, Reporter; Jackie
Vasquez, Sentinel; and, Stefani Dias Historian.
Atwater FFA also has two sectional officers Terilyn
Bettencourt President) and Nikki Schiber
(Secretary).
This
year the theme is “Begin Your Journey, Climb Aboard,
It’s Smooth Sailing Ahead with the Merced/Mariposa
Section”. Various activities were held at the
conference which included public speaking skills,
proper etiquette, facilitating a meeting and finding
team strengths. “This conference helped me developed
better people skills,” said Laura Gonzalez, Atwater
FFA chapter secretary. This conference was the first
of two leadership conferences the officer team will
be attending this year. In two weeks the officers
will be attending the Regional FFA Leadership
Conference held at Denair High School. Over 180
chapter officers from the Central Region and the
2009-2010 California FFA Association State Officer
Team will be attending the leadership conference.
The
skills that the students learn will be taken back to
the high school and shared throughout the 2009-2010
school year. Other FFA chapters that attended the
conference included Buhach Colony, Livingston,
Merced, Golden Valley, Hilmar, Gustine, Dos Palos,
Los Banos, LeGrand, and Mariposa FFA.
